DigitalKoot
The goal of the project is to index the National Library of Finland’s enormous archives so that they are searchable on the Internet. This will enable everyone to easily access Finland’s cultural heritage. Most of the information in the National Library of Finland’s newspaper archives has already been copied into computer databases using computerized text recognition.
The problem is that computers fail to recognize all the words. When the quality of the source material is poor the results need to be fixed by hand and this requires a lot of manual work. Volunteers, by playing an online game, will help to fix mistakes in the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) process of the old newspapers.
